Owl as a doorstopper or a teddybear :-)

DørstopperUgle

Annika from Swedes has a pattern on her blog that’s just FANTASTIC!
The original pattern is on the blog “Skapa och Inreda” right here and there you can also see a lot of images of her owls, and a step by step tutorial.
Annika herself got her inspiration from this blog and there’s a lot to look at – so please stop by, on both blogs

Again Annika has given me permission to translate the pattern, this time in English and it is in US-terms. If you need to translate into UK-terms, take a look at this chart.

THE PATTERN:
For the owl, that is 7,9 inches tall, a hook on 3,00 mm is used and yarn that fits to that size.
(What do you call a 3,00 mm hook in the US? A 2,75 mm is a C/2 and a 3,25 mm is a D/3 … What’s in between?? 😉 )

Wings (x2):
Chain 17
Row 1: Start in the second chain from the hook and do 16 sc – chain 1 and turn
Row 2-6: 16 sc, chain 1 and turn
From row 7: *Skip 1 – sc rest of the row out, chain 1 and turn*
Carry on until there are 3 stitches left.

Change to a new color and make sc all the way around (except for the side with the chains).
When you get to the side with 3 stitches make:
inc, 1 sc, inc
Close

The body:
Use some kind of marker to see where you’re at 😉

Round 1: Chain 2 and make 6 sc in the second stitch from the hook ( or make a magic ring with 6 sc)
Round 2: *sc-inc* (12)
Round 3: *1 sc, sc-inc* (18)
Round 4: *2 sc, sc-inc* (24)
Round 5: *3 sc, sc-inc* (30)
Round 6: *4 sc, sc-inc* (36)
Round 7: *5 sc, sc-inc* (42)
Round 8: *6 sc, sc-inc* (48)
Round 9: *7 sc, sc-inc* (54)
Round 10: *8 sc, sc-inc* (60)
Round 11: *9 sc, sc-inc* (66)
Round 12: *10 sc, sc-inc* (72)
Round 13: *11 sc, sc-inc* (78)
Round 14: *12, sc-inc* (84)
Round 15-40: 84 sc

Now take one of the wings and attach it to the body with 16 sc.
Crochet 26 sc and then take the other wing and attach it with 16 sc.
Crochet 26 sc, – you are now all the way around 🙂

After the attachment of the wings:
Round 42: *4 sc, sc2tog* (70)
Round 43: *3 sc, sc2tog* (56)

If you want feathers on your owl, now is the time to make them 🙂

Round 44-65: 56 sc

The eyes (x2):
With white …
Chain 2 and make 6 sc in the second stitch from the hook ( or make a magic ring with 6 sc)
Round 2: *sc-inc* (12)
Round 3: *1 sc, sc-inc* (18)
Round 4: *2 sc, sc-inc* (24)
Round 5: *3 sc, sc-inc* (30)
Round 6: 30 sc, 1 st
Leave about 10-11 inches to sow the eye on your owl

With black …
Chain 2 and make 6 sc in the second stitch from the hook ( or make a magic ring with 6 sc)
Round 2: *sc-inc* (12)
Round 3: *1 sc, sc-inc* (18)
Finish with a slip stitc and leave about 10-11 inches of yarn to sow the black on the white …

When you have placed the black dot on the white, sow your eyes on the owl and make to small stitches, with the white yarn (look at the images).

Now make your beak with your colour of choice 🙂

You now have to stuff your owl, and maybe use something heavy in the bottom, if you want to use your owl as a doorstopper. After that, close your owl in the top with single crochets and close.

Then cut 5 long pieces of yarn in different colours and pull them through the corners at the top, so you have a loop on the one side. Pull the yarn through the loop and tighten. Cut the yarn afterwards, in the length you want 🙂

If you find ANY mistakes, small or big ones – please leave me a message 🙂
